We invite you to join us in the beautiful city of Edinburgh for the launch of the EBRC, a new world class bioscience centre that is being created in Edinburgh. Funding from the Biotechnology and the Biological Sciences Research Council and the University of Edinburgh will be used to build a major new institute building within the Veterinary Sciences precinct at Easter Bush, integrated with teaching and clinical care of the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies (R(D)SVS). The Roslin Institute, which has recently integrated the Neuropathogenesis Unit, will become a part of the University of Edinburgh, and will form a new organisation within the University that will include much of the research of the R(D)SVS. The EBRC is a consortium that also includes the Animal Sciences researchers of the Scottish Agricultural College and the Moredun Research Institute. Together, the EBRC will form one of the largest groups focussed on the biology of companion and production animals in the world. It will undertake top-class basic and translational science to tackle some of the most pressing issues in animal genetics and genomics, development, health and welfare and their implications for human health.

EICCThis new organisation will be officially launched on 1 April 2008 and to celebrate this event we will also be holding a two day scientific meeting on 7 & 8 April 2008 featuring a number of key speakers from the forefront of international science. The EBRC launch event will take place at the stunning Edinburgh International Conference Centre right in the centre of Scotland’s capital city. The scientific programme will comprise a series of colloquia across the core focus areas of the Institute: Genetics and Genomics, Developmental Biology, Neuroscience, Immunity and Translational Animal Sciences.  Each colloquium will involve invited international speakers and senior members of the merged organisations. The Genetics and Genomics colloquium will be run in parallel with the 3rd International Symposium on Animal Functional Genomics (ISAFG) on Monday 7 April with an expected delegate number of 1000.

We hope you will be able to join us at this extremely exciting scientific event celebrating the launch of this important new organisation.
